Then the prudent Penelope had another thought-to appear before the suitors, so overbearing in their insolence. She had learned from the threat to her son's life for the herald Medon told her, who had heard of the suitors plans. She went to the hall with her women attendance. When the beautiful lady came to the suitors, she stood beside the door-post of the wel-built house, holding her shining veil before her cheeks. She rebuked Antinoös-speaking out she said:
"Antinoös, you doer of evil! filled with insolence! They say that you are the best in councel and in speech among the people of your age in Ithaca. Madman! Why do you weave plans for the death and fate of Telemachos? And you have no care for suppliants -Zeus is witness of this! It is a foul thing to plot evil against one another. Or could you not know of the time that your own father came here as a fugitive, in terror of his people?"
When they had ceased from their labor and prepared a meal, they fell to feasting, nor did they lack anything in the equal feast. And when they had put all desire for food and drink from themselves they thought of rest, and took the gift of sleep.
Well, that's put a damper on the palace feasting that night, but meanwhile in Eumaios' hut:
