Sunset seen from Pyrgi
Meanwhile all the people are gathered at Pyrgi in the 'Woods of Apollo'. There they feasted until they all watched the sun to go down at a specific point on the mountain. Confirming the turning of the sun at winter solstice. This is the last sunset of the year. Everyone must have gone home soon after, before darkness sets in.
As a matter of fact that is quite easy to do. I walked the road between Pyrgi and Vasiliki very often. When leaving Pyrgi after a sunset, walking home to my apartment in Vasiliki, I usually managed to reach Vasiliki before the sun sets there again having time to order a take-a-way coffee and managed to arrive at my balcony to see the sun setting again.
Due to the mountain in the West the shadow of the mountain creeps slowly towards Vasiliki and also to the ancient city since the harbour and the city are on equal distance from the mountain. It must have been fun to walk East along the road while the sun sets again and again. Well, I liked it.

The sun sets pointing to the southwesterly peninsula of Lefkada, right above Pondi where the harbour is and the beginning of the road climbing the mountain Ithacos,the road is part of the 11-day goat-rotation of Melanthios.
Anyhow, unaware of what is happening inside the palace the people of Ithaca went to sleep. Tomorrow will be Apollo's Day. Will the people of Ithaca return to the 'Woods of Apollo', to the altar of Apollo again to see the first sunrise of the new year?
