Flung
Then Odysseus and his glorious troop fell on the foremost fighters. They stabbed with their swords and their spears sharp on both ends. And surely now they would have destroyed all of them and taken away their day of return, if Athena, the daughter of Zeus who carries the goatskin fetish, had not shouted out and put a stop to the people. "Hold off from savage war, O Ithacans, so that you may be separated as quickly as possible without bloodshed."
The priest intervened, crying 'wise' words. He seems to have a solution for the situation, although it looks impossible to find a way out for both parties. But Apollo's Day is a special day, with special solutions like Christmas. Peace is important in a ritual about tossing the bad over the cliff and welcoming new life, a new wife and a new generation. But who is to be flung over the cliffs? Who is the pharmakos?
