Solution
It seems he jumped voluntarily as part of his plan to return to Ithaca to establish a solution. The wise (Athena) priest of Apollo (Mentor) is arranging it.
We already can guess that Odysseus must have survived this all.

Although his jump can be a very smart solution. it is a foolish thing to do, isn't it?
But how could this all have been planned and worked out so well and how did Odysseus survive the leap?

To find out we have to return to the beginning of Odysseus' story,
to Troy and to his odyssey.

So, let's summarize our findings and see why and how Odysseus is taking the leap.
Prepare for a long story, because we have to dive deep in Odysseus' Odyssey.
Prepare for a wonderful story!
